Description

A slender dark bittern with long neck and slim dark bill. Male: sooty black above, throat whitish, sides of neck golden yellow. Female: browner above, less prominently marked below.

Habits

Crepuscular, By day rest in waterside vegetation and come out at dusk and dawn to feed.

Habitat

Forest Wetlands, Near streams, mangrove flats; tree-reed lakes; swamp Forested fresh rivers and inlets.

Breeding

September to January, 3 to 5; white, greenish tinge. Nest of sticks in tree over water. Both sexes nest build, incubate, and feed young.
